Former Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina is navigating her path on the 2016 campaign trail with sustained attacks on former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, The Washington Post reported.

During a five-day tour in Iowa, Fiorina pursued numerous lines of attack, ranging from Clinton's recent campaign style in the state to gender issues and critiques of her career.

"Hillary Clinton must not be president of the United States — but not because she's a woman," Fiorina said during an appearance at the Iowa Faith and Freedom Coalition.

"Hillary Clinton cannot be president of the United States because she is not trustworthy. And while she has held many titles, she hasn't accomplished very much."

Fiorina is expected to announce her bid for the presidency on May 4, the day before the release of her latest book, "Rising to the Challenge: My Leadership Journey."

Fiorina is not well-known in Iowa, according to the Post, and she ranks in the low single digits in numerous opinion polls. She has never held elective office, having mounted an unsuccessful bid for Senate against California Democratic Sen. Barbara Boxer in 2010.

"I ran as a proud, pro-life conservative — you don't do that in California unless you really mean it," Fiorina said Saturday, according to the Post. "That race taught me something: only a conservative can unify this party."

So far this year, she has made three trips to Iowa. A Des Moines Register-Bloomberg Politics poll of likely Republican caucus-goers released in February showed Fiorina in a three-way tie for last place, and a poll found that 66 percent did not know enough about her to have an opinion.

"Where did she come from?" Kim Hiscox of West Des Moines, who attended an event for Fiorina, told the Post. "I must be under a rock or something, because tonight is the first time I've heard her name. I'm so impressed that maybe the Republicans could put forward a woman to challenge Hillary."

Fiorina touted her credentials as a globe-trotting executive, saying she "met more world leaders on the stage today than virtually anyone else running for president, with the possible exception of Hillary Clinton," the Post reported.
