Forty-four members of Congress have received donations from Donald Trump, with Sen. John McCain topping the list at $8,600, Roll Call reported.

Trump has given a total of $88,500 to Republicans currently in Congress, and $24,000 to sitting Democrats. The president-elect has also donated to the campaigns of two of his Cabinet picks: Alabama Sen. Jeff Sessions and South Carolina Rep. Mick Mulvaney. Sessions is up for the role of attorney general, and Mulvaney is Trump's pick for Office of Management and Budget director.

McCain, who has publicly sparred with Trump over several issues, took in seven donations, while Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer received $7,900. Schumer has also been on the receiving end of Trump's ire ahead of his inauguration. Roll Call compiled the list after reviewing Federal Election Commission electronic records dating back to 1977.

Rep. Frank A. LoBiondo took in the most donations from Trump at 10.

Sarah Binder, a congressional expert at George Washington University, said the donations should not be seen as a big deal.

"Of course, it's possible Trump tweets out attacks on the Democrats or Republicans he contributed to if they turn or vote against him," she told Roll Call. "But lawmakers know where their bread is buttered — back home with voters."
