President Donald Trump early Wednesday railed against Gov. Jerry Brown, D-Calif., and his state's sanctuary laws, tweeting that many parts of the state "want out" of the plan.
Brown, speaking at the National Press Club on Tuesday in Washington, blamed "low-life" politicians for the growing backlash over his state's sanctuary laws, Fox News reported.
Earlier in the day, officials in the city of Los Alamitos voted to keep the city out of the state's sanctuary policy, calling it unconstitutional.
"The Republican Party has this little, narrow group of . . . people that think that somehow they're going to get elected" over opposing the sanctuary law, Brown said.
Just before Brown spoke, Trump tweeted an attack against the governor for his plan to allow National Guard troops to the U.S.-Mexico border, but saying their duties will be limited.
Meanwhile, the San Diego County Board of Supervisors voted Tuesday to support the Trump administration's lawsuit that challenges California's sanctuary law. Their 3-1 vote follows a similar action in Orange County, near Los Angeles, in March.
