Mass. Poll: Sen. Scott Brown Leads Warren by 9 Points

By    |   Tuesday, 06 September 2011 04:02 PM EDT

Elizabeth Warren may have helped the White House form its Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, but that isn’t helping her in a potential attempt to unseat Sen. Scott Brown, R-Mass., in a new poll from WBUR, Boston’s public radio station.

Warren, who says she may run for the Democratic nomination for next year’s Senate race, has 35 percent support from voters, compared with 44 percent for Brown. The Harvard law school professor fares better against Brown than any other likely Democratic candidate.

Brown leads City Year co-founder Alan Khazei 45 percent to 30 percent; activist Bob Massie, 45-29 percent; and Newton Mayor Setti Warren (no relation to Elizabeth) 46-28 percent.

Brown “still is viewed favorably by a considerable number of voters,” though Warren is showing great strength for an undeclared candidate, said Steve Koczela, president of the MassINC Polling Group, which conducted the survey.
