Hillary Clinton's former campaign spokesman lashed out Tuesday at the FBI warrant used to obtain the Democratic presidential candidate's emails that were discovered during a probe of top aide Huma Abedin's husband Anthony Weiner.
In a series of tweets, Brian Fallon called the warrant "flimsy" and "utterly unjustified," and demanded that FBI Director James Comey account for actions that were "so unsupported."
LawNewz.com reported it's "hard to get a clear answer" on whether there was probable cause to search the Clinton emails "largely because a lot of the warrant application is redacted when the Department of Justice made it public."
Legal experts also were divided.
"I have done hundreds of search warrants – the FBI was on solid ground on this one. It is important to remember that probable cause is a relatively low burden," Bill Thomas, a former federal prosecutor, told LawNewz.com.
On the other hand, "It was a fishing expedition," Clark Cunningham, professor of law and ethics at Georgia State University, told the outlet. "There is nothing that comes close to probable cause that I can see. [The warrant application] is no more than mere speculation."
