Georgia's largest county needs to "clean up" its election system after thousands of its residents have had long voting delays due to missing ballots, Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger told Newsmax TV.

Voting precincts in Fulton County, Georgia, and other counties surrounding Atlanta, faced widespread problems Tuesday, including having polling stations without enough paper ballots for each voter to submit provisional ballots.

"We know that some people haven't gotten absentee ballots, and primarily that was Fulton County," Raffensperger told Tuesday's "Spicer & Co." "Unfortunately, it's our largest county. We already opened up an investigation. We opened that up last week.

"We see some issues going on in Fulton County . . . with the county election director. I think they need to clean up what they do."

He continued, "We've had four or five counties, Fulton County particularly, where the voters have been seeing all these delays, and it's really unacceptable."

On the other hand, the turnout throughout the rest of the state, Raffensperger said, has otherwise worked smoothly. He credits the absentee program for the large numbers in counties outside of Atlanta.

In all, about 1.2 million people in Georgia voted early, and the majority of them used absentee ballots.

"In our absentee ballot program, we ended up with nearly a million people voting," Raffensperger said.

"We had 16 days of early voting. We had 350,000, which is about 100,000 more than we've ever had before. Before 7 a.m. this morning, we had more voters vote in this primary than we've ever had in any other general primary in June."
