Epshteyn: Deportation Orders Consistent With Trump Promise

Fox News' "America's Newsroom"

The Trump administration's crackdown on illegal immigrants, including to deport nearly 1 million illegal immigrants in the United States, is consistent with President Donald Trump's campaign promise to keep Americans safe and secure in their homes and jobs, White House adviser Boris Epshteyn said Tuesday.

"It means making sure those illegal aliens here who are criminals are led out of this country first," Epshteyn told Fox News' "America's Newsroom" anchor Bill Hemmer. "It does mean giving immigration forces more capability, more wherewithal and more resources. They're extremely vital for protecting America."

Department of Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly is leading a strong team, he continued, and federal and local governments will also come into play while enforcing the nation's immigration laws.

The White House further believes that the nation's sanctuary cities are a danger to the United States, said Epshteyn.

"The justification doesn't make any sense, and they're contrary to laws on the books," he said, noting that Trump has said he's absolutely focused on securing the country and its southern border.

Trump's team is also working fast on a new executive order on travel, making sure there is a set of rules that are in accordance with the courts' decisions, but "the original executive order was lawful and constitutional."

However, he would not predict when the new order will be released, but that Trump, the White House and the team is preparing a rule "as fast as possible to ensure safety and security and protection from terrorism, which is so key."
