Could Bolling Still Bolt in Virginia Race?

That rather surprising Washington Post poll last week showing Republican State Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli winning the governorship of Virginia this year by a margin of 46 percent to 41 percent over Democrat Terry McAuliffe (and 51 to 41 percent among likely voters) has an interesting side to it.

Should Republican Lt. Gov. Bill Bolling — who seriously pondered and then ruled out running as an independent — get back in the race, he would draw 15 percent in a three-candidate contest and 13 percent among likely voters, according to the Post poll.

"The data show Bolling siphoning votes about equally from the two sides," reported the Post.

Although Bolling said he is not running, he has pointedly refused to endorse Cuccinelli. He still has until June 11 to change his mind and submit signatures on petitions to qualify for the ballot.
