President Donald Trump went after Sen. Bob Corker on Sunday after the Tennessee lawmaker blamed the government shutdown on the president.
"Senator Bob Corker just stated that, 'I’m so priveledged [sic] to serve in the Senate for twelve years, and that’s what I told the people of our state that’s what I’d do, serve for two terms. But that is Not True - wanted to run but poll numbers TANKED when I wouldn’t endorse him,” Trump tweeted.
"Bob Corker was responsible for giving us the horrible Iran Nuclear Deal, which I ended, yet he badmouths me for wanting to bring our young people safely back home," Trump continued. "Bob wanted to run and asked for my endorsement. I said NO and the game was over. #MAGA I LOVE TENNESSEE!” he added.
Corker, during an interview on CNN’s "State of the Union," called Trump’s standoff with Democrats over border wall funding a “made-up fight” that is more “spectacle” than policy.
“This is a made-up fight so that the president can look like he's fighting,” Corker said, adding: “It's not just about the money. It's about what we're spending it on. We can secure our borders. We can solve this problem.”
“This is something that is unnecessary,” he declared. “It's a spectacle and, candidly, it's juvenile. The whole thing is juvenile. I want to see real border security and that's why I'm disappointed where we've ended up at the end of this Congress.”
