Democrat Bright Flaunts Opposition to Pelosi

Wednesday, 13 October 2010 11:57 AM EDT

Rep. Bobby Bright not only became the first House Democrat to publicly announce he would vote against Nancy Pelosi’s re-election as House Speaker, but he also is flaunting that opposition in a new campaign ad, Roll Call reports. In the TV spot, Bright promises to vote “for the person who will allow [me] to best represent [my] constituents.” Meanwhile, an Associated Press headline reading “Bobby Bright Won’t Vote for Pelosi” appears on the screen.

“I’ve heard my constituents, and they don’t want a liberal running the House,” Bright says in the ad. “They want a conservative.” He also calls himself “the most independent Member of Congress.” He doesn’t mention anything about modesty.

Bright is in a tough fight against Republican Martha Roby. “What I try to do is bring people together to make good things happen for our country,” he says in the ad.
