Sen. Roy Blunt, R-Mo., on Sunday said plans are underway for an inauguration that sends a "powerful message" — with both Joe Biden and President Donald Trump on the stage “no matter which one of them is sworn in.”
In an interview ABC News’ “This Week,” Blunt, the chair of the inauguration committee, refused to acknowledge Biden cinched the presidential victory Saturday, but said the inauguration is “going to project to the world that democracy works.”
“This is a great time for us to show how a true democracy works,” he said. “I’m confident we're going to see that. I expect to see both Vice President Biden and President Trump on the stages on Inaugural Day. And that will be a powerful message no matter which one of them is sworn in that day.”
Blunt said he believes Trump needs to turn the talk about election fraud and corruption over to his lawyers and to make the case in court.
“That has to happen and then we move forward,” he said. “This is a time when the extra five days or so to get the process finished to actually let the states look at the challenges in their state. This is a close election…closer than anybody thought. “
“There was no blue wave,” he said.
