Expounding on a column published on Newsmax, political consultant Dick Morris told radio host Michael Savage on Thursday that Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump is drawing in blue-collar white voters because he speaks their language.
"Trump is reaching them in a way other politicians have not," Morris said on "The Savage Nation."
Such voters typically do not pay attention to presidential races until the final days, he said, and when they do, they normally turn to the Democratic Party. This year, with Obamacare bills skyrocketing and fears of terrorism, illegal immigration and unemployment on their minds, blue-collar voters "think trump speaks to them in a way others don't," Morris said.
"What they're seeing now in Trump is a willingness to defy the conventional wisdom, to say things that are impolite, that other people are not supposed to say, to do things other people are not supposed to do, and get away with it, and win with it," he said. "That's why he does them."
The political "in-crowd" thinks Trump's "mistakes" should disqualify him, but blue-collar voters see it differently.
"In the course of making these 'mistakes,' he's speaking a language and being condemned by the in-crowd, that the blue collar-voter appreciates, he uses in his own life," Morris said. "And they see Trump as a compatriot because of the way he talks, the way he acts, and his irreverence toward everything."
"He's like them with a lot more money," Savage suggested.
Morris noted Donald Trump Jr. has referred to his father as a "blue-collar billionaire."
The Trump seen on the campaign trail is the same as the real Trump in real life, Morris said – he is blunt in the way he speaks.
"Blue-collar workers like that," he said.
Trump can beat Democrat Hillary Clinton, Morris said, and suggested Trump hammer her on Obamacare, since she was the original architect of the failed "Hillarycare" effort when her husband, Bill Clinton, was president in the 1990s.
Morris is author with Eileen McGann of "Armageddon: How Trump Can Beat Hillary," an Amazon.com best-seller.
