New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio urged Americans to continue protesting against President-elect Donald Trump, according to the New York Daily News.

"We have to recognize that all over this country, the more disruption that's caused peacefully… the more it will change the trajectory of things," the Democratic mayor said during a Hot 97 radio interview.

Citizens must keep calling the president-elect on his actions, says de Blasio and "we need to hold Trump accountable for anything he does that encourages hate and division… The more extreme he is, the more people fight back, the more it takes away his power."

On Wednesday, de Blasio had a "candid" meeting with Trump, and said his proposals on immigration "flew in the face of all that was great about New York City, the ultimate city of immigrants."

In New York and other cities around the U.S., protests against the president-elect have continued. Protesters have been largely peaceful, and many are using "Dump Trump" as a slogan, CNN reports.
