Democratic Mayor Bill de Blasio reportedly has a lot of respect for President-elect Donald Trump's son-in-law, real estate developer Jared Kushner, and plans to keep "an open line of communication" with him.
His admiration for Kushner — who's been named a top adviser to Trump — is in stark contrast to criticism the mayor has aimed at Trump himself.
"I respect him a lot," de Blasio said Monday, Politico reported.
Kushner's family real estate firm, the Kushner Companies, has substantial holdings in the city, Politico reported, and de Blasio said he's "known him for years and find him to be a very reasonable person."
"He's certainly someone I've been talking to over these last weeks," the mayor revealed. "He's someone I intend to stay in touch with on behalf of the people of New York City. He's someone who really cares about New York City and is someone that would be very helpful to us. So I'm certainly pleased he'll be in that role."
"And I can say clearly compared to many other people who've been named to other positions, I find him to be a lot more reasonable and a lot more moderate," he added, saying Kushner is someone "I'm going to keep an open line of communication with."
