New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio groused that Hillary Clinton "makes it about her" rather than the issues in her primary debates, according to a newly released hacked email of Clinton campaign chairman John Podesta.
In an email – with the subject line "I'' police" – dated March 6, the liberal big-city mayor criticized Clinton's debate performance against Sen. Bernie Sanders.
"Hillary was fantastic on the gun control answer, then totally blew the mass incarceration question," de Blasio wrote. "Why on Earth did she say 'Are you going to ask Senator Sanders that question?’ instead of just addressing the issue[?]"
"When she makes it about her, she loses the high ground," he wrote. "Stating the obvious, I know, but she keeps doing it...."
Podesta wrote back : "Very fair. She’s better in her speeches but reverts in this format. Since we have another debate in 3 days we can work on it."
Transcripts of the debate show Clinton was asked about her husband Bill Clinton's 1994 crime bill when he was president — which CNN host Don Lemon said locked up a "generation of black men," the New York Post reports.
"The question is why should black people trust you this time to get it right?" he asked Clinton, the Post reported.
"Well, Senator Sanders voted for it as well. Are you going to ask him the same question?" she replied before providing her answer.
The new data dump is the fourth batch of Podesta correspondence posted by hacker advocate WikiLeaks, the New York Post noted.
The United States last week blamed the Russian government for the hacking of political sites and accused Moscow of trying to interfere with the upcoming presidential election.
