Sen. Bill Cassidy, R. La., said he believes a stimulus bill aimed to help struggling small businesses will be introduced, saying “we got to do something for the American people.”

In an interview on CNN’s “State of the Union,” Cassidy said the bill will be introduced Monday night.

“We are the only bipartisan game in town,” he said. “We are the only one where people have come together from both parties and said, ‘listen. I'm not with you on that, but if you give me this, I'll give you that because we got to do something for the American people.’”

“If we can introduce a bill tomorrow night that takes care of the small business owner … [who] is just hanging on and we are able to give [them] a little more support until the vaccine is a simulated and the employees keep their jobs and landlord is out three months of rent and now [they] can pay the rent and keep [their] place fixed up. If they can do that we have done our job. What [Senate Majority] Leader [Mitch] McConnell [R-Ky.] does, I have no control over. I can only do what I do.”

Cassidy said there’s been a “functional” concession to Joe Biden because the transition process has begun — and that a “mea culpa” by President Donald Trump isn’t needed.

“In terms of the functional aspect of actually beginning the transition, that has begun,” he noted.

“If you want kind of the acknowledgment we are working together and we are working for a transition and we are going to make it happen, President Trump has done it and I assume others have done it as well. It has happened. If it's a mea culpa, I don't know if it's needed even though I know some people want it.”

Cassidy said “obviously, he is the president-elect.”

“He has 270 electoral college votes,” he said. “We are the law and order party. We are a nation of a Constitution. We are a nation of laws and courts that interpret those laws. And, by the way, I have more confidence than the courts than ever because President Trump has appointed more judges than anyone else ever has.  We are a nation of laws. This is the Constitution and this is the law and this is how it breaks out and the courts have ruled that … Biden is our next president. “
