Joe Biden’s campaign has dropped plans for a Tuesday fundraiser featuring Andrew Weissmann, a former top prosecutor with Robert’s Mueller’s special counsel team.
The Wall Street Journal said the event was canceled shortly after it was announced last week. Biden’s campaign did not comment on the cancellation. According to the Journal, the re-election campaign for President Donald Trump had criticized the planned fundraiser. It had maintained Weissmann had tried to end the Trump presidency and then decided to raise money for his opponent.
Weissmann, Mueller’s lead prosecutor, was due to headline a “virtual fireside chat” moderated by Anne Milgram, a former New Jersey attorney general.
The fundraiser was to be seen over Zoom.
Weissmann has been described as the architect of the case brought against Paul Manafort, who had served as chairman of the Trump presidential campaign in 2016.
