President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris are both planning to campaign in Georgia in the final days before the pair of Senate runoff elections on Jan. 5 that will determine which party will control the upper chamber, The Washington Post reported on Wednesday.
Harris plans to stump for the two Democrat Senate candidates, Jon Ossoff and Rev. Raphael Warnock, in Savannah on Sunday, while Biden will appear in Atlanta the following day to support the candidates, according to Biden’s campaign.
Biden won Georgia in a tight presidential race last month, becoming the first Democrat White House candidate to do so since 1992, which has uplifted his party’s hopes for the Senate races.
For both Biden and Harris, this will be the second visit to the state to campaign for the Democrat Senate candidates in the runoffs, NBC News reported.
Former president Barack Obama is also attempting to sway Georgia voters.
He narrates a new ad for Ossof by describing Biden’s victory in November as a rejection of President Donald Trump’s “fear and division.”
Obama emphasizes in the ad that “America is counting on you again,” as he encourages voters to back Ossoff.
Trump is also traveling to the state before the twin elections, planning to stage a final rally on Monday in Dalton for the Republican candidates, Sens. David Perdue and Kelly Loeffler.
