Former U.S. Rep. Betty Sutton will run for Ohio governor, The Plain Dealer newspaper in Cleveland is reporting.
Sutton was expected to make her formal announcement on Tuesday, according to the newspaper. She will become the second Democrat to enter the race.
Ohio Senate Minority Leader Joe Schiavoni has announced he will seek the 2018 Democratic gubernatorial nomination.
"This is a natural step, and I'm very, very lucky to have people in my corner supporting the public service I've done in the past and what I can do in the future as governor," Sutton said.
The newspaper noted that Republican Rep. Jim Renacci is considered among the top four Republican prospects for governor.
The Columbus Dispatch said Sutton lost by 4 percentage points to Renacci after a "GOP-authored redistricting threw them into the same race."
The eventual winner of the governor's race will succeed Gov. John Kasich.
