Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos said Friday she's visited public schools across the country all week and has seen a broad range of teaching methods that she thinks are the future of learning.

DeVos appeared on "Fox and Friends" and spoke about her four-day "Rethink School Tour" that ends Friday with stops in Missouri and Indiana.

"The schools are "focusing on creative and innovative approaches to meeting kids' needs in school," DeVos said.

"We ultimately believe that every child is unique and different, and every one of them deserves an equal opportunity to get a great education. We are talking this week about rethinking schools because the way that we've done school for over 100 years is essentially the same. And yet everything around us has changed. So the schools we visited this week are really approaching the needs of students differently."

DeVos gave an example of a public school in Wyoming that is run by the teachers and offers individualized learning plans for each student.

"So much of our curriculum has been focused on the average student, and yet we know that no student is average," DeVos said. "Everyone is unique and different, and that's why this whole personalized learning notion is really I think very attractive and one that really should be studied closely by educators across the country."

DeVos also made a pitch for school choice, arguing that parents should have the ability to choose where they would like their children to attend school.

DeVos said earlier this year that Common Core, a set of educational standards states are asked to follow if they have adopted the program, is phasing out because of another federal education act called the Every Student Succeeds Act.
