Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., said Joe Biden needs to be "the most progressive president since FDR" during an interview with the group of left-leaning congresswomen known as the "squad."
Sanders spoke with Reps. Ayanna Pressley, D-Mass.; Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y.; Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich.; and Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., and brought up former President Franklin Delano Roosevelt, who led the United States during World War II and championed the New Deal.
"Our first task, we've got to defeat the worst president in modern history in this country and number two, we organize our people to make sure that Biden becomes the most progressive president since FDR," Sanders said during the remote meeting that he posted on Twitter.
"That's what I'm envisioning."
Separately, Sanders is reportedly pushing to serve as Biden's secretary of labor should Biden win the presidency in Tuesday's election.
Sanders, a self-described Democratic socialist, ran for president this year but ended his campaign in April after it was clear that Biden, a former vice president, had enough support to become the Democratic Party's nominee.
