Former supporters of Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders are reticent to throw their support behind Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton, but many feel they have no choice.
"Yes, Hillary Clinton is flawed, more flawed than many candidates before her, but she is not him," wrote Democratic New York City Councilman Jumaane D. Williams for The Nation, referring to Republican candidate Donald Trump, "not even close and not by a long shot."
Williams, who voted for Sanders at the Democratic National Convention, is one of many Democrats supporting the party nominee out of opposition to Republican candidate Donald Trump.
"It's hard to deny what a third party vote or non-vote could mean," he writes. "It could mean that we elect a man who has literally made it popular to hate again. The reality is we are here. And with only a few days out, there is no chance that anyone other than two people will win this election.
"Given that scenario and as much as we hate to admit it, voting for a third party or staying home helps him win, period."
According to The Washington Times, there are still Sanders supporters who refuse to choose another candidate.
"I voted for Bernie Sanders," Ohio resident Jerome Williams, who voted early, told the Times. "He is more for the working-class person, and that's what I am."
When asked why he didn't follow Sanders in his support of Clinton, William said he didn't believe either major candidate. "I don't trust either one of them," he said.
