A pro-Bernie Sanders group has voted in favor of the resignation of Democratic National Committee interim chairwoman Donna Brazile, and it's now circulating an online petition about the issue.
Brazile, who took over as the DNC's temporary chief over the summer when the group forced out Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, has come under fire for allegedly leaking debate questions to former presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.
Sanders lost the Democratic Party's presidential nomination to Clinton, and now a group called the Bernie Delegates Network — which has no official ties to the Vermont senator — would like to see Brazile go. The group's sponsor RootsAction.org posted a petition Monday asking for support after the Bernie Delegates Network voted 337-13 to see her go, USA Today reports.
Brazile stepped down from her role as a CNN contributor last month after a leaked email showed she provided the Clinton campaign a question before a debate between Sanders and Clinton. CNN broadcasted the debate.
Sanders delegate Norman Solomon co-founded RootsAction.org and penned an op-ed for The Hill, in which he made the case that Brazile needs to go.
"Like Debbie Wasserman Schultz before her, Brazile has lost credibility as an honest broker at the Democratic National Committee," Solomon wrote. "The DNC chair should be evenhanded — but, thanks to leaked emails, Brazile's cover is blown."
Wasserman Schultz resigned after leaked emails showed the DNC showed favoritism toward Clinton during the Democratic primary process.
