Sanders Mocks Trump: 'We Got a Clue; Healthcare Is Very Complicated'

Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders mocked President Donald Trump's claim "nobody knew healthcare could be so complicated," telling CNN it is time for Republicans to move past rhetoric and come up with practical solutions to improve healthcare.

"Some of us who were sitting on the health education committee, who went to meeting after meeting after meeting, who heard from dozens of people, who stayed up night after night trying to figure out this thing, yeah, we got a clue," Sanders told CNN's "Anderson Cooper 360." "When you provide health care in a nation of 320 million people, yeah, it is very, very complicated."

Trump's remarks came at the White House in an address to governors, many of whom are concerned about constituents losing their health coverage if the federal government repeals Obamacare without an adequate replacement.

Sanders said the GOP slogan during election season "We're gonna repeal Obamacare and everything will be wonderful" has proven to be overly simplistic now that the Republicans are in power.

The plan the administration is working on will most likely focus on access to private healthcare.

"We remain today, and let's not forget it, the only major country on Earth that doesn't guarantee healthcare to all people," Sanders said. "We pay the highest prices by far for prescription drugs. Let's address those issues, let's get beyond rhetoric."
