Axelrod Lashes Back at Rep. Ackerman

Democratic New York Rep. Gary Ackerman had harsh words for President Barack Obama’s decision to compromise with Republicans on taxes. Democrats “got screwed” by the deal, Ackerman says. According to Politico, White House senior adviser David Axelrod (pictured) has a message for Ackerman:

“The people who are going to get screwed -- as Congressman Ackerman says — are the American people, if we don’t act to prevent their taxes from going up on January 1,” Axelrod said on CNN. “Compromise by its very nature involves things that neither side likes.”

Axelrod says he shares Democrats’ “sense of anguish” over the deal, but that not reaching one would accomplish little other than prove that the GOP favors the wealthy over the middle class.
