Former two-term governor Arnold Schwarzenegger on Thursday tweeted that President Donald Trump is "out of his mind" if he thinks he's going to succeed in revoking California's tough emission standards for cars.
Schwarzenegger called Thursday's joint proposal by the EPA and National Highway Traffic Safety Administration a "fake conservative policy announcement."
California already has filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration, with Gov. Jerry Brown vowing to fight the new plan "in every conceivable way possible," the L.A. Times reported.
"For Trump to now destroy a law first enacted at the request of Ronald Reagan five decades ago is a betrayal and an assault on the health of Americans everywhere," Brown said, referring to the Clean Air Act. "Under his reckless scheme, motorists will pay more at the pump, get worse gas mileage and breathe dirtier air."
