Voters in Arizona who are over the age of 50 are more likely to support President Donald Trump, a Politico poll reported.
Among the poll’s results:
- 52 percent of Arizona voters over 50 approve of Trump’s performance.
- 57 percent of Arizona voters over 50 support building a wall on the U.S.-Mexico border.
- 53 percent of Arizona voters over 50 approve of Trump’s handling of immigration.
Voters over age 50 also support other Republicans more than Democrats; in a generic House of Representatives ballot, Democrats have a four-point lead , 41 percent to 37 percent. However, among voters 50 and older, Republicans are ahead by 7 points.
In other poll results, fewer older voters believe the U.S. has a responsibility to allow in refugees; also, more older voters believe that Americans are obligated to speak and understand the English language.
However, the poll showed that Democrats could have a strong chance to challenge the Republican Party in the state. In results from the poll regardless of the voter’s age:
- 54 percent do not approve of the job that Trump is doing as president.
- 44 percent approve of Trump’s job performance.
The Cook Political Report puts the open Arizona Senate seat as a "toss-up," meaning either party has a good chance of winning.
The poll was conducted from June 29 through July 9 among 1,641 registered voters, with 834 of those age 50 or older, with a margin of error of 2 percentage points, the poll report said.
