Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., on Thursday took a veiled shot at ex-Rep. Joe Crowley, the veteran lawmaker she beat in the Democratic primary last June – castigating ex-congressional members who go to work for lobbying firms.
“If you are a member of Congress + leave, you shouldn’t be allowed to turn right around&leverage your service for a lobbyist check,” the freshman lawmaker tweeted.
“I don’t think it should be legal at ALL to become a corporate lobbyist if you’ve served in Congress. At minimum there should be a long wait period,” she wrote – without mentioning Crowley by name.
The tweet linked to a report from the nonprofit consumer advocacy group, Public Citizen, on the cozy fellowship between former lawmakers and lobbyists.
The analysis showed that nearly 60 percent of retired or defeated members of the 115th Congress who’ve gotten work outside of government headed to lobbying and consulting firms, or trade and business groups, that do business with the federal government.
Those singled out by the report included Crowley, who works for Squire Patton Boggs, the New York Post reported.
