Dr. Anthony Fauci, a leading member of the White House Coronavirus Task Force, said in a recent interview that President Donald Trump barely interacts with the group that’s working to combat the pandemic.
Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergies and Infectious Disease, was asked in an interview with Stat News that was published on Monday if he’s had frequent contact with Trump to discuss the progress on a possible vaccine for the coronavirus. He answered, “No.”
Fauci continued, "We used to have task force meetings every single day, including Saturday and Sunday, and about 75% of the time, after the task force meeting we'd meet with the president. So I was meeting with him four times a week back a month or so ago.”
He added, "But as you probably noticed, the task force meetings have not occurred as often lately. And certainly my meetings with the president have been dramatically decreased."
CNN reported last week that the task force had been meeting far less than it had during the height of the coronavirus pandemic, and that public health experts like Fauci and other members of the panel rarely speak at press conferences when they are in attendance.
