Following Sen. Lindsey Graham's comments on Wednesday that he won't back another continuing resolution, two more senators have come out against a short-term spending bill.
"I'm sick of voting for CRs. This is no way to govern. We haven't had a budget in 20 years on time. We've had five CRs a year. This is the fourth one this year," Sen. Angus King, I-Maine, said on CNN's "New Day" Thursday morning.
"I think we've got to close this escape hatch, stop voting for CRs, and tell the leadership they're going to have to make their deals, and then we'll get it done."
Congress faces a partial government shutdown if it fails to pass a funding bill Thursday or Friday.
Sen. Mike Rounds, R-S.D., sided with King later on Thursday.
"I agree with Angus, and that's the reason why I'm opposing the CR in its current form as well," Rounds said on "New Day."
"For me, it's a matter of defense and it's a matter of trying to make sure in the future the message is let's get our work done on time."
He added: "It's been 44 years since we actually had a budget act that was workable and in the last 44 years, in only three cases, have we actually got this budget and the appropriations done on time."
