Donald Trump should use his inauguration address to ease Americans who think his presidency is exclusionary and "only for angry white men," "Morning Joe" host Joe Scarborough said Monday.
He needs "to take it to the next step and needs to do what we've all been hoping he would do," Scarborough said in response to guest presidential historian Michael Beschloss' assessment Trump should be assuring Americans "there's nothing to fear."
"He needs to reach out to Americans who are nervous, who are worried, that think a Trump presidency is exclusionary and only for angry white men," Scarborough said. "That if you're a Muslim American, you have a reason to be afraid. If you're a black American, you have reason to be afraid. If you're an immigrant to this country, you have a reason to be afraid.
"Boy, you just aren't going to have a bigger platform than you will have at the inauguration to again, deliver your message, but at the same time, send out signals."
The presidential campaign was a divisive one between Trump and Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton, and Trump won the election in a surprising upset. He is facing a big obstacle heading into office, as he enters the White House with a significantly lower approval rating than previous president-elects, according to The Huffington Post.
