Aneesh Chopra, who was the first chief technology officer during the Obama administration, said that Jared Kushner's Office of American Innovation "mirrors very nicely" the technology initiatives that he worked on.
Chopra made the comments on Tuesday to Mike Allen of Axios.
Chopra added that expanded technological literacy is a "wildly bipartisan" issue for government.
"While you'll generally see those of us in the Obama world sort of fret all of those (Trump administration) decisions, on this topic you'll see a lot of alignment and a lot of support," Chopra said at the Axios event Tuesday.
Social media provides some risks as well as benefits, Chopra said in the Axios interview. He pointed out that many users "filter out" news that they might not agree with.

He also called on an increase in communication infrastructure, noting that India has nationwide biometric ID cards.
"We have large swaths of the country that don't have any communications capacity… how are we going to add economic opportunity if we don't have basic communications infrastructure?" Chopra told Axios.
