When New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo visited the White House a few weeks ago, he turned down an invitation from President Donald Trump to take part in a press conference with him, The Washington Post reported on Sunday.

Officials with knowledge of the offer told the newspaper that the idea of the proposed joint press briefing was encouraged by White House senior adviser Hope Hicks, who is also a former Trump campaign staffer

However, Cuomo departed the April 21st White House meeting without any photographs taken of the governor together with Trump.

In the Post report, neither spokesperson for the White House nor Cuomo were available for comment.

The governor has often had public disagreements with the president during the coronavirus crisis, although Cuomo described the White House meeting at the time as productive, according to The Hill.

After the get-together, the president announced that the USNS Comfort, which had been sent to New York City to help the Big Apple cope with the pandemic, would return to Virginia so that it could be sent to aid other locations, with Trump telling reporters that Cuomo had agreed with that assessment.
