Forty-six percent of voters support confirming Judge Amy Coney Barrett for the Supreme Court, according to a Morning Consult/Politico poll released Wednesday.
President Donald Trump nominated Barrett earlier this month following the death of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, and Republicans are looking to confirm her as soon as possible ahead of the 2020 presidential election.
Seventy-seven percent of Republicans support confirming Barrett, compared with 24% of Democrats.
Democrats have softened their opposition to Barrett’s confirmation, with 59% saying the Senate should wait to see who wins the election, compared with 79% who said the same earlier this month.
Senate Republicans likely have enough votes to confirm Barrett. The Senate Judiciary Committee is scheduled to start its hearing on Monday and run through Oct. 15. Senators have the option to question Barrett remotely.
A CNN poll found that 42% of respondents indicated they would like to see her confirmed, compared with 46% who said they wouldn’t.
The Morning Consult/Politico poll, which surveyed 2,000 registered voters, has a 2-point margin of error.
