Health and Human Services secretary Alex Azar on Wednesday said President Donald Trump wants to go "much, much further" in his efforts to lower drug prices, the Washington Examiner reports.
Azar made the comment during a speech he gave at the annual meeting of the American Hospital Association, the Examiner reports.
Azar's speech comes two days before the president's speech about the high cost of drugs.
The HHS head told the assembly that the administration is focused on solving the problem of "seniors and government programs overpaying for drugs due to the lack of the latest negotiating tools; rising out-of-pocket costs for consumers; and foreign governments free-riding off American investment in innovation," the Examiner reported.
Trump was scheduled to give the speech last month, but postponed it due to Azar's bout with diverticulitis that required a brief hospital stay.
