It will be a catastrophe for the country if the Republicans lose the special election Senate races in Georgia, former Sen. Al D’Amato said Sunday.

Speaking on "The Cats Roundtable" radio show on WABC 770 AM hosted by John Catsimatidis, the New York Republican said that "this economy will be destroyed if the Democrats take over the Senate with their agenda of packing the courts, bringing additional states in, raising taxes … bringing in programs aimed at giving Medicare for all, [and] having a policy that basically brings about open borders."

If the Republicans lose both Senate seats in the special election in Georgia in January, that means the upper chamber would be split 50-50, but control of the Senate would go over to the Democrats because of the vice president's tie-breaking vote in a Joe Biden adminstration.

D’Amato emphasized that adding Washington, D.C., and Puerto Rico, two overwhelmingly Democrat areas, as states would not help the American people but would just be a political power grab that would "give the Democrats control of the Senate for many years to come [and result in] one-party government."

The former senator said that New York is an example of a disastrous situation that can result from one-party government, warning that a loss of a Republican majority in the U.S. Senate would reward a philosophy that says, “Don’t get the rioters under control, control the police. Our conceptions are lost. We’ll have tax increases that will hurt working middle-class families."
