A leading Trump critic's busy Thursday morning of tweeting included a direct shot at Vice President Mike Pence.
Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., preceded his tweet storm about Russian election interference in a message to Pence.
"VP Pence has now brought his sycophancy to a whole new level. With questions concerning which senior transition officials were aware of Flynn’s secret talks w/ Russian Ambassador still unanswered and new revelations every day, investigation must continue without his interference," Schiff said in his tweet.
Schiff, the top-ranked Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee, was responding to Pence's comments to NBC regarding the Department of Justice's Russia investigation. The probe, which began last spring, is looking at whether the Trump campaign colluded with Russia and if President Donald Trump obstructed justice by firing FBI Director James Comey last year.
The administration has denied any wrongdoing and Trump routinely calls the probe a "witch hunt." Pence has mostly stayed on the sidelines, but he urged special counsel Robert Mueller to end the investigation so the country can move on.
"Our administration has provided over a million documents, we've fully cooperated in it and in the interest of the country, I think it's time to wrap it up," Pence said.
"And I would very respectfully encourage the special counsel and his team to bring their work to completion."
