Rep. Schiff: Would Be Better if Trump Watched Cartoons

Rep. Adam Schiff, the top Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee, suggested Thursday national security would be better off if President Donald Trump watched cartoons in the morning rather than Fox News.

In remarks on CNN's "The Lead," the California Democrat was asked if Trump's Thursday morning tweet that seemed to lobby against the reauthorization of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act reauthorization hurt the efforts of those who wanted the bill to pass.

"Absolutely," Schiff responded about the tweet, adding, "he almost doomed the bill."

"If I could make one national security recommendation to the president it would be stop watching judge [Andrew] Napolitano on Fox."

"This may be the only time where the country would benefit from the national security point of view if the president of the United States were watching cartoons in the morning instead of something else," he said.

Video of the remark was posted by The Hill.

The president had tweeted the provision of the part of FISA known as Section 702 was potentially used to justify alleged government surveillance of his presidential campaign — a position at odds with the administration's official supportive position.

He then followed up with another tweet calling on lawmakers to reauthorize the program, causing confusion on Capitol Hill.

The president has previously illustrated in his tweets that he's watching "Fox and Friends" — and using the program to advance his opinions as well.
