President Donald Trump insisted he is competent enough to serve as the nation's chief executive during a speech Thursday night.
At a campaign event in Billings, Montana, Trump addressed questions about whether he is fit for office — questions that have dogged him since he was sworn in more than 19 months ago.
"Is he competent? I think I'm pretty competent, right? Don't you think? Is he competent?" Trump said, referencing what some in the media often ask. "And their ratings are down the tubes. You know why? Because people get it, they really get it."
During his remarks, which lasted more than an hour, Trump talked about how he defeated the Clinton and Bush dynasties to win the 2016 election.
"I beat all of these senators, all of these governors, all of these brilliant political minds," said Trump, alluding to the field of 16 other Republicans who ran for president. "Then I beat the other side."
Trump also discussed former physician to the president Dr. Ronny Jackson, who announced on live television in January the results of Trump's annual physical.
Jackson "said that I am in great shape. And the Democrats, liberals, deep state, they were very upset to hear that," Trump noted. "So, they got tougher and tougher, and they lied more, and they write more books now."
