Ex-House Members Seeking Comebacks in 2014

Wednesday, 08 January 2014 06:28 AM EST

Will 2014 be the year of the congressional comeback?

Several Republicans who once served in the House are trying to recapture their old seats this year in states like Illinois, New Hampshire, New York, California and Georgia.

In the Philadelphia suburbs, Democrat Marjorie Margolies is trying to win back a seat she lost two decades ago during the Clinton administration.

Republicans see a more favorable political landscape this year with President Barack Obama's political standing weakened after the botched rollout of his signature health care law.

Democrats will try to connect Republican candidates to their old voting records in Congress and the tea party movement, which contributed to last year's government shutdown.
