General Motors' ignition-switch defect — linked to at least 12 deaths and triggering a massive recall — was facilitated by a "big daddy" federal government always ready to bail out corporations, conservative radio host Kevin Jackson says.
"What capitalist company that is not bankrolled by the federal government or the taxpayers of America do you think would allow something this bad to happen?" Jackson told "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV, referring to the $10 billion bailout from the government after GM's 2009 bankruptcy.
"There is no incentive to fix any of this," he said Monday. "GM has had big-daddy government at the ready to save them no matter what. It doesn't matter how many people they killed, it doesn't matter how many lawsuits.
"They'll settle these lawsuits, [and] if GM needs more money they'll get more money because none of this matters, because they haven't been made to pay for their problems."
Jackson said that if GM was not able to get taxpayer bailouts, it would act more responsibly.
"But because government is playing big brother, effectively helping these guys to get over whatever problems that they have, they don't actually have to solve problems," he said.
