Famed neurosurgeon and potential Republican presidential candidate Dr. Ben Carson disregarded countless atrocities throughout history by saying Obamacare is "the worst thing that has happened in this nation since slavery," according to David Swerdlick of TheRoot.com.
"He's obviously a very smart guy, he's a neurosurgeon, he's a philanthropist, an author, but if he wants people to take him seriously now that he's doing this sort of second act in politics, then he ought to make serious statements," Swerdlick told "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV.

"Saying that Obamacare is the worst thing in the nation since slavery is not a serious statement. It's over the top, it disregards a ton of American history in between slavery and now, and it just sounds like he's just trying to grab headlines, which if that's what he's trying to do, fine, but it doesn't reflect well on him in terms of whatever he does with his career."
Swredlick, whose web site focuses on African-American commentary, cited segregation and the internment of Japanese Americans during World War II as other inhumanities against man.
"The list goes on and on. The idea that between then and now there's been nothing that imposes on people's freedom and then all of a sudden this is the comparison point. It just makes him look like he's just out there for the headlines," he said.
"If Republicans are serious, as they've professed, in bringing, particularly, people of color more into the Republican and conservative movement, this is the exact opposite of the way to do that."
