Sen. Tim Scott, R-S.C., told Newsmax TV on Thursday that President Donald Trump “needs Congress in session” to approve his appointees to the Federal Reserve Board to deal with the “economic tsunami” caused by the coronavirus outbreak.
Scott told “Newsmax Now" on Thursday that “the president's growing more and more frustrated” because he can focus on fighting the coronavirus and fulfilling his other duties as president, including filling government vacancies.
Scott said that it “is absolutely essential for us to be victorious” against the coronavirus, saying that “at the same time, the president recognizes the economic tsunami requires a working, functioning, fully attended Federal Reserve Board and there are a couple of [nominations] he'd like to get through.”
He added, “We need to be doing that right now. The national security apparatus, the lack of a director of national intelligence, is a challenge for this nation. We see folks outside this country looking to take advantage of the situation, [Trump] wants to make sure that all of our resources are deployed, and he’s ready to fill those jobs. He needs Congress in session to make that happen, so he’s looking for ways to get that done. I admire and respect his resolve to make sure that this nation has the resources, the people resources, that it will take to protect our economy and to protect our nation.”
