Economist Moore: 'We're Letting the Left Write the History Books'

Friday, 30 May 2014 06:19 PM EDT

President Barack Obama's policies are fueling the nation's dismal economic growth, says Stephen Moore, senior economics writer for The Wall Street Journal and chief economist for The Heritage Foundation.

"My explanation is [the president] drinks his own Kool-Aid. He really thought, you know all these programs, they were going to create this worker’s paradise, and everybody was going to get rich,'' Moore told "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV.

It's the "liberal model of governance in central planning that’s never worked anywhere or any time in human history, but somehow this time it was going to work because, let’s face it, a lot of liberals have this distorted view of history.''

Story continues below video.

Moore said when he had asked his 13-year-old-son, who is taking an American history course, who the nation's greatest president has been, he replied Franklin D. Roosevelt.

"I said, 'why is that?' 'Well, Franklin Roosevelt was the one that got us out of the Great Depression,' and I walked him through it and said, 'wait a minute, Franklin Roosevelt became president in 1933, the Great Depression didn’t end until 1941, eight years later, how did he get us out of the Great Depression?''' Moore said.

"That’s what the history books tell people … We’re letting the left, even though their ideas never work … write the history books.

"And they’re writing the history books for the last six or seven years, and that history is, Barack Obama came in on this white horse and saved the economy from a second Great Depression, and thank goodness he came in with all these programs.''
