The growing violence in South Sudan, which has spurred the United States to evacuate Americans, has demoralized the nation, says Simon Abang Deng, an award-winning activist and refugee from Sudan.

"It is really very sad to the people of Sudan, and it is very disappointing to people of the world in general," Deng told "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV.

Story continues below video.

"Everybody is demoralized. Everybody's paralyzed," Deng said Monday.

A detachment of U.S. Marines are set to evacuate Americans and provide security for the U.S. Embassy as civil war looms.
