Ex-Recon Marine: Benghazi Hearings Were 'Punitive,' Not 'Solution Based'

By    |   Monday, 26 Oct 2015 04:49 PM

The hearings conducted by the House Select Committee on Benghazi do not really address how to capture terrorists, bring them to justice or improve embassy security, says Rudy Reyes, a retired reconnaissance Marine and former Department of Defense counterterrorism contractor.

"We can't fix the problem and come up with solutions until we've had a proper debrief. This was the problem with the hearings. It became more punitive as opposed to … solution based," Reyes said Monday on "The Hard Line" with Ed Berliner on Newsmax TV. Watch the full interview with Rudy Reyes on "The Hard Line," which airs from 9-10 p.m. ET.

"I would also think that some of the reason that's how it's slanted is because the American people in general have such little experience in third world combat conditions, such little experience in geopolitics, and damn sure have very little experience in security, specifically security for Americans."

Reyes said veterans in the intelligence community need to help educate those on Capitol Hill about how best to go about it.

"As a special operations guy, as a scouts sniper recon guy, we think outside of the box and trust me there is no set of rules in warfare. There is no rulebook, there's nothing that is out of bounds when you're fighting for your team's life and you're fighting for a greater cause," Reyes said.

"I don't think some of our representatives have the experience down range. They've never seen brothers dying in their arms, they haven't had to tread through the guts, they haven't been sweating and in the dirt and in the mud."

"And so I don't think they understand how critical the timely information, how critical it is to save lives by making plans quickly and employing them. We need more people like myself and others who have served in arduous conditions to get into government."
