Ron Hosko: Comey Using Own Judgment in Clinton Email Case

By    |   Monday, 31 October 2016 06:46 PM EDT

FBI Director James Comey is using his own judgment despite catching heat from colleagues at the Department of Justice regarding Hillary Clinton's email investigation, former FBI official Ron Hosko told Newsmax TV.

Hosko, a former assistant director at the bureau, spoke with J.D. Hayworth on "America Talks Live" Monday to discuss the recent developments in the Clinton case.

"This case is certainly different than a lot of others. It's different not just because it involves Hillary Clinton, leading presidential candidate, wife of the former president, but the profile of this case at the time makes it different," Hosko said.

"I've heard that senior officials at the Department of Justice did communicate with the director. Their view on it, which was to not write this letter to Congress, and that the director held a meeting with some of his senior advisers and then he decided to go forward in this direction.

"I think this is a path that he is deciding the right steps to take, at the end of the day, using his own judgement. He listens to others. He takes in their counsel."

Hosko also poured water on reports that say FBI agents are preparing to quit the bureau because of Comey's announcement over the summer in which he did not recommend charges be brought against Clinton.

"To my knowledge, and I stay fairly close with former co-workers, there is no truth to that," Hosko said. "People leave the FBI typically at the end of a 25- or 30-year career like I did."

Comey decided to reopen the Clinton case after the bureau discovered emails that could be relevant on a laptop owned by Clinton's top aide Huma Abedin and her estranged husband Anthony Weiner, a former congressman.
