The deadly Ebola virus will remain a serious health concern around the world and in the United States, says Robert Garry, a doctor of virology at the Tulane University School of Medicine.
"It's certainly going to expand a lot more, and for those three countries in Africa, Sierra Leone, Liberia and Guinea, it's a devastating situation," Garry said Wednesday on "The Steve Malzberg Show" on

"People are talking about can these countries even recover from this, so for that little part of the world, it's a very serious thing.
"For the rest of us, it's also very serious, too. Those countries are important emerging democracies, and we need to take care of those people and make sure we have long-term good relations with them."
Garry said that even just a few cases of Ebola showing up at random in the U.S. or Europe or other developed areas would be very serious.
"You'd see the stock market drop and see people panic. It would be a very important event," he said.
He said the illness is not easy to catch.
"The general thought now is that you cannot get the Ebola virus unless you actually touch the patient, come in contact with their bodily fluids, blood, vomit, diarrhea — those kinds of fluids that people with this disease unfortunately produce," he said.
"There are other diseases like influenza, measles, that are much more highly infectious."
