Peter Morici: Republicans Need to Embrace Change

Tuesday, 27 May 2014 06:56 PM EDT

Republicans need to get behind a platform of change, says economist Peter Morici, a professor at the University of Maryland.

"There are a lot of Republicans that kind of like things the way they are,'' he said.

Morici appeared with Rick Ungar, co-host of the SiriusXM radio show "Steele & Ungar," on a panel discussion moderated by Dennis Kneale, guest host of "The Steve Malzberg Show," on Newsmax TV.

Story continues below video.

Chances are good that Republicans will hold onto the House of Representatives and seize the Democratic-controlled Senate in the midterm elections, says Ungar.

"[It's] reasonably good. There's no way that they're not going to hold onto the House, that's just not going to happen.

"We still have a long time to go, [but] if today were Election Day, it's hard for me to imagine that the Republicans don't take over the Senate.

"Any way you slice it, President Obama is a lame-duck president. He's the earliest lame-duck we've seen in quite a while barring a catastrophe, barring a foreign situation.''
