Columnist: Harry Reid 'Off His Medications'

Thursday, 08 May 2014 01:45 PM EDT

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid's quip that the billionaire Koch brothers are one of the "main causes" of climate change is a "foolish" statement by somebody "off his medications," Washington Times columnist Charles Hurt says.

"I marvel at the fact that he's still allowed to go out on the Senate floor and speak about anything," Hurt told "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV.

"But especially something like this where he's off his medications."

In a speech on the Senate floor after the release of a damning report warning concerning global warming, Reid criticized energy tycoons Charles and David Koch as "experts at contributing to climate change.

"That’s what they do very well. They are one of the main causes of this. Not a cause, one of the main causes."

Hurt said Reid's claims are wearing thin.

"He's losing his mind … At some point people are going to sort of wake up and say, 'What is this nonsense you're talking?'" Hurt said.

"The Koch brothers stuff, I don't really know if it'll backfire on Democrats, but it's going to wear very, very thin because it's such a line of bull malarkey," the columnist said.

"[The Koch brothers] are private citizens. They are an integral part of the economy and they are doing something that is vital in America and that is creating commerce and creating jobs and making tax rolls.''
